The Southland Dental Care approach to Dental Implants
When you come in for dental implants, in addition to a comprehensive oral examination and x-rays, we will photograph your mouth and jaw using our intraoral camera. Dr. Abaian and Dr. Hanookai will make certain that your gums and teeth are healthy and free of gum disease and will provide any necessary treatment that must be done prior to your dental implant procedure.
The doctors will consult with one another and with you to determine the exact treatment plan that is needed. You'll be informed every step of the way, so you don't have to worry about surprises.
Using advanced technology for accuracy and quality
A 3D X-ray ensures that Dr. Hanookai can place your implant with great accuracy.
Sherman Oaks Implant Dentist, Dr. Hanookai uses our in-house 3-D CT Scanner to place dental implants with great accuracy. Before placing the dental implant physically, the 3-D X-ray makes it possible to place the dental implant virtually. This helps Dr. Hanookai ensure that the dental implant is placed as precisely as possible, which results in much shorter healing times for her patients.
Because of her expertise in placing dental implants, Dr. Hanookai has been able to provide dental implant surgery for patients who have been told they could not get implants. Using a computer-controlled CEREC milling machine, Dr. Abaian can design and craft a replacement tooth that will look and feel natural.
A dental implant consists of 2 parts: a titanium post, surgically placed into the bone of your jaw, and a ceramic replacement tooth. After Dr. Hanookai has placed the post, Dr. Abaian will design and fit your replacement tooth. The post will need some time to heal before the permanent tooth can be placed, but for most patients, Dr. Abaian can fit you with a replacement ceramic tooth to use as a temporary replacement during healing. Are you a candidate for dental implants?
The ideal candidate for a dental implant is in good general and oral health. Adequate bone in your jaw is needed to support the dental implant. Some people who have lost bone in their jaw can still receive dental implants, but first the bone must be rebuilt using special bone-grafting procedures.
People who are currently wearing partial or full dentures can replace these with dental implants or use dental implants to stabilize and secure the denture, making it much more comfortable.
People who are not good candidates for dental implants include:
- Pregnant women;
- Patients who take certain medications such as steroids or drugs that suppress the immune system;
- Younger patients whose jawbones have not fully developed;
- People with existing medical conditions that would preclude surgery;
While precautions are advisable for certain conditions, even patients with such chronic diseases as high blood pressure and diabetes are usually successful candidates for dental implant treatment.
If you can have routine dental treatment, you can generally have an implant placed.
