What is a Root Canal?

A root canal serves to preserve a severely injured, cracked, or decayed tooth after its pulp has become infected or inflamed. Also known as an endodontic treatment, a root canal can be completely treated in one or two visits to Southland Dental Care, depending on the severity of the infection.

Don’t Delay Treatment

If left untreated, a root canal can be extremely painful and can leave the patient in a state of unmanageable discomfort. After being treated for a root canal by Dr. Abaian, the affected tooth will resume its previous function and, if regulated with proper oral hygiene, can last the patient a lifetime.

Contact our office immediately to schedule a consultation appointment if you are experiencing any of the following warning signs or symptoms, as there is a high possibility that you need a root canal:

  • Pain in the tooth or gum region
  • Discoloration of the gums or tooth, or particular sensitivity to cold or hot foods
  • A tooth that is tender to the touch
  • Pus discharge within the mouth
  • Tenderness or swelling surrounding the lymph nodes under the jaw
  • Pain in one side of the face and the neck with no indication of the origin of the pain

Still, a root canal can exist without these specific warning symptoms. An x-ray taken at our office can help to further pinpoint the origin of the problem and assess whether or not root canal treatment is necessary.
